Chittenden Superior Court of Vermont, Civil Division, is the largest civil court in Vermont with an annual caseload of over 2800 civil cases, 1421 of which are Small Claims involving damages of $5,000 or less. The Court hears predominantly civil cases which involves the private rights of individuals and organizations. The current Presiding Judge is the Hon. Geoffrey W. Crawford.

Chittenden Superior Court of Vermont, Civil Division has an appointed County Clerk and two elected Assistant Judges. The County Clerk is responsible for day-to day county operations including handling county election duties, passport processing and Notary Public administration. The Assistant Judges sit in court alongside the Presiding Judge and weigh in on questions of fact as local representative of the community.

Chittenden Superior Court of Vermont, Civil Division also houses the Probate Court, which is responsible for wills, settlement of estates, adoptions, guardianships, name changes and uniform gifts to minors.
